Last updated: March 2026

We checked 30 UK small business websites to see how they handle reviews and ratings on their homepage. Most mention reviews - but one in five references them without linking to any verifiable source.

TL;DR

  • 21 out of 30 UK SME websites (70%) mention reviews, ratings or stars on their homepage
  • 6 out of 30 (20%) mention reviews without linking to any review platform
  • 60% link to at least one review platform
  • 33% mention Trustpilot by name

A caveat on these figures
“These figures come from our own audits of UK business websites, not a national census. Treat them as directional: they show the pattern across the sites we have tested, and the exact numbers will move as the sample grows and as AI platforms change how they pick their sources.”

The 20% gap

One in five websites makes review claims on their homepage without linking to any external platform where those reviews can be independently verified.

Why this may matter for AI visibility

AI platforms assess credibility through multiple signals - and third-party reviews are one of the most widely understood trust indicators. A verifiable review claim from a recognised source carries more weight than an unverifiable self-published claim.
